Knox Marine CEO, SAMS-AMS
Doug Alling, SAMS-AMS, runs the day-to-day operations of Knox Marine Surveyors & Consultants from our headquarters in Charleston, South Carolina. Doug performs inspections from North Carolina to Georgia. He is an IAMI Certified Marine Investigator, ABYC certified and a Coast Guard captain’s license instructor.
SAMS-AMS and NAMS-CMS (retired)
Steve founded Knox Marine in 1987. He investigates boating accidents and complex claim assignments throughout the eastern U.S. and provides expert assistance in cases involving construction or repair of pleasure boats, including warranty claims. Steve holds a BS in Nuclear Engineering, is a licensed Professional Engineer and is one of the few marine surveyors in the U.S. certified as an Accredited Senior Appraiser.
Laurie Moran is our business manager and works in our Richmond office. She joined Knox Marine in early 2014 and runs the business side of the business. Nearly every written report is reviewed by Laurie prior to being sent to our client. Her expertise keeps Knox Marine running smoothly day-to-day.
Jason Ustaszewski, SAMS-SA, ABYC Master Technician, will run the company’s new Fort Myers operation. Jason is a former Marine Technician specializing in gasoline inboard and outboard engines and an instructor at Chapman’s School of Seamanship.
Bill Patterson, SAMS-AMS, has worked from our Richmond office since 2010. Bill is an experienced engine mechanic and has a background in boat repair, including wooden boats. His personal boat is a Chesapeake Bay buy boat that is over 100 years old. Bill has managed a local marina and railway and maintains a Coast Guard captain’s license.
Rick Milner, SAMS-AMS, services our clients in southeastern VA, northeastern NC, and the Eastern Shore of VA. He owns and operates Dynamic Marine Surveys, which he founded in Norfolk in 2003. Rick is a member of the International Association of Marine Investigators and the National Fire Protection Association.
Jeff Kibler, SAMS-AMS, works alongside Doug Alling in Charleston, SC. Jeff has owned and operated True South Marine Surveying, LLC in Charleston since 2012. Jeff is a SAMS accredited marine surveyor, U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain, and a Certified Level 1 Thermographer. He also served as a Quality Control Inspector for HMY Yacht Sales.
Scott services our clients in the South Florida region. Scott has over 19 years of experience in fiberglass boat manufacturing & design, marine engine repair & installations, marine finishes, and long distance boat delivery. He is an IAMI Certified Marine Investigator and ABYC Master Marine Technician in Systems, Electrical, and Corrosion. Scott maintains a U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Master Captain License with sailing endorsement.
Eric Smith, SAMS-AMS, works from our Gloucester, VA office. Eric is an accomplished maritime professional and retired U.S. Coast Guard Master Chief Boatswain’s Mate, where his duty assignments included maritime law enforcement, vessel inspections, search and rescue, marine salvage, pollution response, towing assistance, aids to navigation, marine construction, and waterborne heavy lift operations. He is a graduate of the Chapman School of Seamanship, an ABYC standards certified technician, and maintains a Coast Guard 100 ton captain’s license.
William (Will) Robinson, SAMS-AMS, NAMS-CMS, serves our clients in North Carolina. Will is a Certified Level 1 Thermographer and has experience with fiberglass boat construction, paint application, recreational craft restoration, and commercial and cargo work. In addition, William is a member of IAMI, ABYC and a graduate of the Chapman School of Seamanship.
Staci Houser joined Knox Marine SC as our business administrator in January of 2017 and is in our Charleston, SC office. Staci has a wealth of financial expertise and handles our invoicing, bookkeeping, and financial matters.
